Texas Access to Justice Project (TAJ)

TRLA hires law school students for our Telephone Access to Justice Project (TAJ), the primary intake phone line for applicants applying for TRLA legal assistance. Part-time TAJ Associate positions offer law students the opportunity to develop practical legal skills and assist low-income clients with a wide variety of legal problems. Under the supervision of staff attorneys, TAJ Associates conduct detailed, substantive intake interviews and enter the information into TRLA’s case management database for attorney review. In the course of their work, TAJ Associates frequently collaborate with TRLA staff attorneys throughout our 68-county service area and across 40 practice teams to gather necessary information to evaluate urgency and eligibility for TRLA services. Many attorneys TRLA hires began their TRLA careers working at the TAJ.

  • Law students who have completed at least their first year of law school are eligible for TAJ Associate positions

  • Spanish is strongly preferred

  • TAJ Associates must work a minimum of 12-15 hours per week

  • A TAJ summer position is part-time and does not preclude interning with another organization or attending summer school
