Guardianship Alternatives

Services: The clinic helps families of children with disabilities who are transitioning to adulthood. Families and students are counseled on legal documents that will allow the student to obtain support and help without the need for guardianship.

Legal Aid for Veterans

Ask-A-Lawyer series: Texas RioGrande Legal Aid will host a legal clinic for eligible veterans*, widows and spouses of veterans, and current service members to speak with a lawyer about their civil legal needs including housing evictions, HUD-VASH, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), SNAP/food stamps, Medicaid, VA benefits, wills & probate, advance directives, and much more…

Bexar County

Driver’s License Restoration Clinic

Location: Haven for Hope, 1 Haven for Hope Way, San Antonio, TX 78207

Schedule

Services & Requirements
: The clinic serves homeless and low-income veterans in Bexar County. The staff works to remove barriers to obtaining Driver's Licenses by providing assistance in clearing outstanding citations. Staff also assist in researching and resolving other issues that prevent individuals from obtaining a valid Driver's License or valid ID, including obtaining an out-of-state birth certificate.

El Paso County

Legal Clinic for the Homeless

Location: 1331 Texas Ave., El Paso, TX 79901

Schedule: Walk-in applications on Tuesdays and Thursdays; by appointment on other days of the week. To submit an application, please call (833) 329-8752
Services & Requirements: This clinic works to remove barriers clients face in obtaining employment, housing, and public benefits. The staff represents clients on class C misdemeanors and warrants recall, provides assistance in obtaining identity documents such as birth certificates, and appeals Social Security benefits denials.

Hidalgo County

Bankruptcy Clinic

Location: Federal Courthouse, 1701 W. U.S. Highway 83 #1011, McAllen, TX 78501

Schedule: As needed.
Services & Requirements: TRLA assists clients with Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Clients must be pre-qualified through the TRLA intake process and complete a bankruptcy checklist. Clients will be paired with a volunteer attorney.

Expunction Clinic

Location: Hidalgo County Courthouse, 100 N. Closner, Edinburg, TX 78539

Schedule: As needed.
Services & Requirements: Attorneys with the Hidalgo County Bar Association work with TRLA to assist clients with expunction cases. Clients must be pre-qualified through the TRLA intake process. Clients will be paired with a volunteer attorney.

Wills on Wheels

Services & Requirements: In partnership with South Texas Civil Rights Project, UT Law, and various community organizations, TRLA organizes free wills clinics for low-income Rio Grande Valley residents. Law students draft wills and Transfer on Death Deeds (TODD), which are reviewed by volunteer attorneys before execution.

Webb County

Social Justice Night Court

Location: Webb County Courthouse, 1110 Victoria St., Laredo, TX 78040

Services & Requirements: Attorneys with the Webb County Bar Association work with TRLA to help clients obtain expunctions or divorce in uncontested cases. Clients must be pre-qualified through the TRLA intake process and complete an information checklist.
