Driver’s License Restoration Clinic

Location: Haven for Hope, 1 Haven for Hope Way, San Antonio, TX 78207.
Schedule

Services & Requirements
: The clinic serves homeless and low-income veteran populations in Bexar County. Staff work to remove barriers to obtaining driver's licenses by providing assistance in clearing outstanding citations and applying for DPS surcharge waivers; staff also assist in researching and resolving other issues that prevent individuals from obtaining a license.

Legal Aid for Veterans

Location: Audie L. Murphy Hospital Rec. Rm; 7400 Merton Minter, San Antonio, TX 78229.
Schedule: First Wednesday of the month; 9 am-12 pm.
Services: The clinic serves low-income veterans and direct dependents with legal issues related to housing, foreclosure, veterans benefits, SNAP/TANF, family law, Social Security benefits, Medicaid/Medicare/CHIP, consumer law, and other legal issues.

Cameron County

Divorce Clinic (Community Justice Program)

Location: Cameron County Courthouse; 974 E. Harrison St., Brownsville, TX 78520.
Schedule: Four times a year; dates vary.
Services & Requirements: Attorneys with the Cameron County Bar Association work with TRLA to help clients obtain divorces. Clients must be pre-qualified through the TRLA intake process, complete a divorce information checklist, and attend two 5 pm meetings at the Cameron County Courthouse.

Divorce Clinic (Assisted Pro Se)

Location: First and second meetings held at TRLA’s Harlingen office, 308 E. Harrison, Harlingen, TX 78550. Final meeting held at the Cameron County Courthouse, 974 E. Harrison St., Brownsville, TX 78520.

Services & Requirements: Clients must be pre-qualified through the TRLA intake process, complete a divorce information checklist, and attend two meetings.

Wills on Wheels

Schedule: In January; date varies. Clients must have an appointment; please call Gabriel (956) 393-6204 to be placed on the waiting list.
Services & Requirements: In partnership with South Texas Civil Rights Project, UT-Law, and various community organizations, TRLA organizes free wills clinics for low-income Rio Grande Valley residents. Law students draft wills and Transfer on Death Deeds (TODD), which are reviewed by volunteer attorneys before execution. 


El Paso County

Divorce Clinic (Assisted Pro Se)

Location: TRLA El Paso office, 1331 Texas Ave., El Paso, TX 79901.
Schedule: Monthly.
Services: TRLA staff guide clients through the process of filing for their own divorces. Divorces must be uncontested; parties must either have no children or have Child Support Orders already in place; and community property must be limited to vehicles. Participants must attend two clinic meetings, where they learn about the divorce process and review pleadings prepared by TRLA staff.

Legal Clinic for the Homeless

Location: TRLA El Paso office, 1331 Texas Ave., El Paso, TX 79901.
Schedule: Walk-in applications on Tuesdays and Thursdays; by appointment on other days of the week. To submit an application, please call (915) 585-5122.
Services & Requirements: This clinic works to remove barriers clients face in obtaining employment, housing, and public benefits. Staff represents clients on class C misdemeanors and warrants recall, provides assistance in obtaining identity documents such as birth certificates, and assists with simple divorces and appeals of Social Security benefits denials.

Services & Requirements: TRLA assists clients with Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Clients must be pre-qualified through the TRLA intake process and complete a banktuptcy checklist. Clients will be paired with a volunteer attorney.

Val Verde County

Divorce Clinic (Assisted Pro Se)

Location: TRLA Del Rio office, 902 E. 11th St., Del Rio, TX 78840
Schedule: Dates vary. Please call the TRLA Del Rio office for scheduling (830) 774-8300 or (800) 369-0489.
Services & Requirements: The clinic serves Val Verde residents who do not have the resources to hire legal counsel for representation in divorce actions. Both the Attendee and the Opponent in the case must be in agreement on divorce. If children are involved, Child Support Orders must be finalized in the county in which the client is seeking a divorce. Clinic attendees must be eligible for TRLA services to qualify for the Pro Se Divorce Clinic.


Victoria County

Divorce Clinic (Assisted Pro Se)

Schedule: At least twice per year.
Services & Requirements: TRLA staff guide participants through the process of filing for their own divorces. Guardianship Alternatives

Schedule: Upon request.
Services: The clinic helps families of children with disabilities who are transitionig to adulthood. Families and students are counseled on legal documents that will allow the student to obtain support and help without the need for guardianship.

Services & Requirements: The clinic provides legal resources and business law services for nonprofits working to improve the quality of life in low-income neighborhoods.  

Psychiatric Advance Directives Workshop: Write Your Rights!

Schedule and locations vary.
Services: The workshop helps people with lived experience with mental health challenges to create a psychiatric advance directive. Through the psychiatric advance directive, people with lived experience with mental health challenges are able to express their preferences regarding mental health treatment. Further, clients are counseled and provided with the opportunity to create additional legal documents, which may also help maximize self-determination.

Small Business Legal Clinic

Schedule and locations vary.
Services & Requirements: In partnership with non-profit microenterprise development organizations, TRLA staff and pro bono attorneys provide low-income entrepreneurs with counsel and advice on the various legal issues confronting their businesses. Qualified clinic attendees may receive assistance in the formation of single-member LLCs. Clients must be pre-qualified through the TRLA intake process.
